What is carpet made up of today?

Carpet is a floor covering that is generally made up from wool, polypropylene, nylon or polyester. It consists of an upper layer and then a bottom layer. Usually manufacturers will heat-treat a carpet to make sure it maintains its structure.

With Nylon this is the most common material used for carpet manufacturing. Nylon has the best characteristics out of most materials for carpet as it can be printed on or even dyed if needed.

Wool is well-known for being well durable and can be dyed as easily as nylon. When this is mixed with synthetics such as nylon durability is increased massively. Wool is often used in most modern-day carpets even if its only around 10%.

Polyester this is used quite often and is used in spun and filament constructions. Polyester has recently become more valuable after the price of raw materials has started to rise.

Acrylic is also another synthetic material created by a company called the Dupont Corporation in  1941. Although it has gone through many changes since, it was invented it has kept most of its qualities that made it one of the well-known synthetics of the day. It is very difficult to dye but can be done.

Carpet is usually manufactured in factories and is normally cut to demand as it is usually produced into one big roll. Carpet is relatively cheap compared to what it used to be as other products such as wood and stone are becoming more and more in demand.
